Rouvas Forest

The Rouvas forest is located in the centre of the Island Crete between the provinces of Iraklion and Rethymnon.

PROGRAMME
We set off from Iraklion early in the morning by coach or MiniBus and passing from Anogia (a typical Cretan Village) we arrive at Shinaka where the observatory of Crete is situated at an altitude of 1770 meters.

From Shinaka we start walking till we reach the "Koudouni area" from where we literally start our descent through the Rouvas Forest which is well famous for its flora.
Oak trees, Cidars and the unique "Anegnoron tree" (which only exists in Crete) will welcome you in order to fulfill your expectations.

We rest at Aghios Yannis church -a picturesque Greek Orthodox church build next to a small river.
After having being rest we pass through the "Tafari gorge" -not a big one but extreme beautiful - which will lead us to the monastery of Aghios Nikolaos.
There we'll be treated to some "raki" (typical Cretan snap) by the monks.

Being rejuvanated by the "raki" and the hospitality of the monks, we need only half an hour to reach "Zaros lake" where we end the day having lunch in a local tavern that the coach or Minibuses are waiting to bring us back to where we started.
